If you agree to join a VPP—which basically allows your battery to feed power back into the grid when it’s needed—you can earn another $250 to $400. That’s paid at installation, and you can potentially get another payment three years down the line. All up, some households have managed to claim around $2,800 in total benefits, just by installing and connecting a battery.

To get access to the rebate, your battery installation needs to meet a few important criteria. First, it has to be installed between 1 November 2024 and 30 June 2025. That’s because the upfront discount is ending after June.
