Installers love Tesla because it’s reliable, the company offers solid support, and it just works. It is a bit of an investment though — we’re looking at about $13,000 to $14,000 installed. But many people feel that peace of mind is worth it.
Sungrow SBR HV
Then there’s Sungrow. This has become a favorite among many installers in a low-key way, ranking alongside Tesla in popularity this year. What we really love about Sungrow’s battery is that it is so flexible. It’s modular, which means we can begin with a smaller system and then add more storage whenever our circumstances change. They employ lithium iron phosphate cells, which are safe and long-lasting.
Sungrow works really well with their own hybrid inverters, and it’s generally more affordable than Tesla — usually between $9,000 and $10,000 installed for a 12.8 kWh system. For families who want something that won’t break the bank but still delivers solid performance, Sungrow’s a great pick.
Sigenergy SigenStor
Now, Sigenergy is a bit of a dark horse. They ranked second highest in the installer votes for 2025, and well they might. What sets Sigenergy apart is that their SigenStor system isn’t merely a battery — it’s a package deal. It includes the battery, inverter, energy management, and even a 25 kW bidirectional DC charger for electric vehicles.
If we already have an EV or are going to purchase one, this is a total game-changer. We can charge our vehicle in an efficient manner, and in the future, even feed energy from our vehicle back to our house or the grid — with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) technology. It’s a little more expensive, typically around $11,000 to $13,000 or more installed, but if we’re looking for the latest technology and a future-proof installation, Sigenergy is definitely worth considering.
BYD Battery-Box Premium HV / HVM
BYD isn’t as glitzy as some of the others, but it’s a world giant when it comes to batteries, and Australian installers have a lot of experience with them. Their Battery-Box Premium HV and HVM use high-voltage lithium iron phosphate cells, so we’ve got safe, long-lasting storage that’s tens of thousands of cycles deep. The systems generally provide about 13.8 kWh of usable capacity, and we can add more if we find we need it later.
They get along well with high-end inverters such as Fronius and SMA, which are common in Aussie homes. The cost of installation typically ranges from $10,000 to $11,500. Installers prefer BYD due to its established quality and compatibility — essentially, it’s a no-BS option that performs as promised in the box.
Enphase IQ Battery 5P
Enphase may be most famous for their microinverters, but their IQ Battery 5P is gaining popularity as well. It’s modular — we have each unit holding 5 kWh, and we can stack up to 40 kWh depending on our requirements. The battery comes with lithium iron phosphate chemistry, so it’s safe and long-lasting.
One of the most notable aspects is the 15-year warranty that Enphase provides — that’s longer than many other brands, which should give us a good feeling of security for the long term. They integrate beautifully with Enphase solar systems, which is a definite plus if we have already installed their microinverters. Cost generally falls between $10,000 and $12,000 for two units with installation. It’s a wise, safe option particularly if we want something that integrates beautifully with our current system.
How to Select the Proper Battery for Our Home
So, how do we select the proper battery for our home? It’s not merely based on the brand or cost — it actually comes down to how we utilize our energy and what we have in mind for the future. If we expend most of our energy during the daytime when our solar panels are producing energy, a battery may not save us plenty of money on bills. However, if we draw plenty of power at night — perhaps charging an EV or heating things — a battery will be able to save us a lot of money by holding excess sunlight for nighttime use.
The capacity of the battery is also a large consideration. The typical Aussie household consumes about 15 to 20 kWh of power per day. So, a battery with 10 to 13.5 kWh of capacity tends to capture a night’s worth of energy requirements. If we anticipate increasing our energy consumption — perhaps because we install an EV or additional appliances — modular batteries such as those from Sungrow or Enphase allow us to increase storage later on.
If we own or desire an EV, we need batteries that can charge EVs and even export power from our car to our house or the grid. Sigenergy is leading the charge in this, with Tesla also developing these capabilities as infrastructure evolves. BYD and Sungrow will possibly require additional modules or enhancements to perform similarly.
