2025 Ford F-150 Lightning – How powerful is the EV?

The 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is an EV benchmark because it combines America’s best-selling pickup truck’s rugged capability with the times’ electric technology. A twin electric motor drivetrain powers the F-150 Lightning midframe with sturdy performance across the trim levels:

  • XLT Trim: 452 horses and 775 lb-ft torque support up to a 7,700-lb tow capacity.
  • Flash™ and Lariat Trims: Boosts power to 580 horsepower with matched torque, tow capacity to 10,000 lbs.
  • Platinum Trim: Offers an estimated range of approximately 300 miles with the extended battery and tow capacity up to 8,600 pounds.

Independent rear suspension comes as standard equipment on all trim levels, offering better ride quality and road behavior than leaf-spring configurations.

🔋 Battery and Charging Capabilities

There are two batteries to choose from for the F-150 Lightning:

  • Standard-Range Battery: Offers up to an EPA-estimated range of 240 miles.
  • Extended-Range Battery: Offers the up to 320 miles of range, which varies based on trim and configuration.

It’s driven by the BlueO Oval Charge Network, offering access to over 180,000 public charging connectors in North America, including Tesla Superchargers through an optional NACS Fast Charging Adapter.

F-150 Lightning is designed with utility and functionality that maximize its versatility

  • Pro Power Onboard™: Provides up to 9.6 kW of power via multiple 120V and 240V outlets and is able to charge tools, appliances, or even another electric vehicle.
  • Mega Power Frunk: Featuring an expansive front trunk with 400 lbs payload capacity with secure and weather-sealed storage.
  • Ford Intelligent Backup Power: With the use of the 80A Ford Charge Station Pro, the Lightning is able to power homes in the event of an outage.

Within, F-150 Lightning achieves balance of technology and comfort:

  • SYNC® 4A System: Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ capability comes standard on a 15.5-inch screen for seamless integration.
  • Ford Co-Pilot360°: It comes equipped with advanced driver-assist technology such as BlueCruise, allowing for hands-free driving on eligible sections of split highways.
  • Premium Audio: Base trim and up feature a B&O® Sound System, with enveloping listening.

💰 Pricing and Availability

The 2025 F-150 Lightning comes in various trims to meet various needs:

  • Pro: starting at $49,875.
  • XLT: starting at $62,995.
  • Flash™: starting at $67,995.
  • Lariat: starting at $76,995.
  • Platinum: Based on options and configuration.

While marketed mainly in the United States, the F-150 Lightning can be purchased by other countries overseas, e.g., Australia, through specialty importers.

The F-150 Lightning was widely recognized and in 2024 received Edmunds’ Top Rated Electric Truck, praising its combination of performance, innovation, and utility.

⚖️ Considerations

Where the F-150 Lightning shines, some limitations there are that even prospective buyers should keep in mind

  • Towing Range: Heavy towing decreases the range notably. Towing a 7,218-pound camper, e.g., through testing could give only a 90-mile range.
